The expectations of Dads today seem to be very different from what they were many years ago. Much more is being demanded in terms of commitment, output, effort, work, travel and many other obligations that consume their time.
I believe most Dads could experience a dramatic increase in their enjoyment of life, quality of life, and standard of living by making just a few smart lifestyle decisions. You don't have to choose between working all hours to earn a decent living, or doing a half-baked job in order to have a life. Surely the purpose of work is to provide the income which gives you and your family the opportunity to do the things you enjoy most?
Take a look at the Dragon's Den panel, and you see successful entrepreneurs who are fathers also. By setting clearly defined goals and taking action, they have managed to become multi millionaires and hold down families too.
For example, take Theo Paphitis. Born in Cyprus, his family moved to London, and that is where Theo grew up. By the age of 23 he owned his own business. He is now known as a man who can turn failing retail businesses into huge successes. With companies such as Rymans Stationers, Boux Avenue lingerie and Robert Dyas currently under his belt, Theo is none the less very much a family man, with five children and several grandchildren.
Peter Jones is another man who likes a large family. His first business was based on his passion for tennis, proving that starting a business based on what you know and love is a good place to start. Peter has built and lost businesses so knows about the extreme highs and extreme lows. His main fortune has been made from the mobile business but now due to Dragons Den he has a wide range of diverse business interests. And how many children does this Dad have? Like Theo Paphitis, five! Annabelle, William, Natalia, Isabella and Tallulah.
But Duncan Bannatyne pips them both, albeit with two marriages, with a total of six children. His rags to riches story started when he bought an ice cream van for 450, ultimately selling the business for 28,000. He then moved into the area of care homes and nurseries before diversifying into his current health club empire.
The TV programme that has brought them to our attention has meant that all the Dragons have moved into new business areas, proving that they are willing to diversify and take a risk in order to be a success.
Adam Houghton has made it his life's mission to raise awareness of the great many opportunities out there that Dads from all walks of life can use to achieve a life of total time freedom.
